Mental Health Services Team

Purpose: provide crisis response and Mental Health outreach to individuals experiencing trauma or having stress-related needs due to the disaster

Lead Agency: Abbe Center for Community Mental Health

Roles and Responsibilities:

Preparing and Training

  • Provide training to staff who address disaster-related trauma
  • Provide training to other agencies on how to address disaster-related trauma

Emergency Response

  • Brief staff for deployment into affected areas and/or shelters
  • Special needs
  • Liaise with mass care shelters to provide trauma services (FEMA offices/ resource Centers)
  • Provide de-briefing to disaster workers and volunteers as needed (LAP-AID Members)


  • Coordinate with Case Advocacy team to identify and address un-met mental health needs
  • Educat the public on the mental health reperfcussions of the disaster
  • Provide mental health services and referrals for substance abuse and other specialized needs
  • Continue de-briefing with disaster recovery workers/ volunteers/ LAP-AID membersĀ
